The Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area added 4,000 jobs between February 2006 and February 2007, according to a new report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That puts it in the upper quarter of the latest rankings of raw job growth -- 91st place out of 367 U.S. metros.
The new report represents an improvement of three positions for Buffalo-Niagara Falls, which ranked 94th a month ago.
Two Texas markets top the current list. Dallas-Fort Worth picked up 94,000 jobs during the past year, while Houston added 90,200.
Rounding out the top five are Phoenix with 89,200 new jobs, New York City with 86,700, and Los Angeles with 60,100.
Detroit brings up the rear with its loss of 32,500 jobs during the past 12 months. Other big losers are Cleveland (down 5,400 jobs), Youngstown, Ohio (down 4,300), and Flint, Mich. (down 3,500).
The report includes employment data for 12 metropolitan areas in New York, and all but one registered gains during the past year. These are the raw changes since February 2006:
