Leaders Hoping To Lure IKEA, Others To Harbor
Monday May 21st, 2007

You know the saying "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?"

Well Mayor Byron Brown and the designated developer for Buffalo's big Inner Harbor project, Benderson Development, are hoping that what happens in Vegas will lead to great things for Buffalo's Inner Harbor.

Starting Sunday, Brown and Benderson will be in Las Vegas, meeting with retailers from all over the country at the industry's largest convention.

The big project in the Inner Harbor is Canal Side, which is to house shops, restaurants and other amenities.

It's anchor will be the Bass Pro store.

"With Bass Pro being the anchor tenant for Canal Side, a lot of retailers are saying if Bass Pro is involved, we want to be involved also," says Brown.

Brown says meetings have already been set in Las Vegas with furniture giant IKEA, and with Magic Johnson, who has developed movie theaters, clubs and restaurants in New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.

Scott Brown: For the skeptics who say they've heard all of these development promises before, what do you say?

Brown: "To the skeptics out there, I say it's finally happening. You see cranes in the air, you see construction, we're getting calls from people all over the country. People finally want to come to Buffalo."
