BERC Presents Spring 2006 EAP Graduates
Wednesday May 10th, 2006

BUFFALO—Mayor Byron Brown and Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation (BERC) President Timothy Wanamaker today honored the 39 members of the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program graduating class. EAP is a partnership between BERC and Canisius College, The Small Business Administration, Small Business Development Center and SCORE.

“EAP students are the seeds of economic development here in Buffalo,” said Mayor Brown. “As my administration focuses on creating and growing opportunities in the City of Buffalo, we can be confident that our new small businesses will have the tools they need to succeed. We have seen the success so far in our neighborhoods business districts and I look forward to seeing more in the future.”

Since the program began in 2004, the Buffalo Economic Renaissance Corporation has provided EAP students a comprehensive curriculum, 52 hours of classroom instruction with one-on-one assistance. Instructors and community resources are brought together to present each aspect of writing a business plan.

“The Entrepreneurial Assistance Program provides an opportunity for business owners to learn how to strengthen their business and marketing plans, as they develop a clear personal plan for success,” said Timothy Wanamaker. “Since EAP started, we have seen twelve new businesses open in Buffalo and forty five others seek assistance to make their business a success. These graduates will continue to be assisted by BERC as they continue to pursue their dream of running their own business.”

BERC staff will continue to support these entrepreneurs as they get their businesses started, with support and a specialized technical assistance advisory board, as well as the EAP Micro-Loan Program, which assists them with start-up costs for their business
