The Central Park Plaza is an antiquated and under-utilized retail development, which has excellent potential to be redeveloped as an urban office park. Developers are showing active interest in the property for this use, and BERC is looking to acquire adjacent property to improve access to the site. The City of Buffalo is poised to begin roadwork and right-of-way improvements adjacent to the plaza. Areas of the Central Park neighborhood, immediately northwest of the site, continue to be some of the most desirable residential properties in Buffalo. Central Park Plaza is included in the pending New York State Empire Zone application.
Action Plan: Acquire and demolish abandoned buildings on Chalmers Street. Work with City of Buffalo DPW to create "gateway" entrance. Work with developer(s) on plaza acquisition.
